Sports Massage specifically addresses sporting injuries and ailments. It is both preventative and therapeutic. Deep Tissue Massage concentrates on deeper, and often more long-term, chronic problems of soft tissue, such as static and postural muscles. Deep tissue does not necessarily mean deep pressure, but rather a concentrated, specific manner of working in the deeper layers. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas, such as stiff neck, low back tightness and sore shoulders, scarring, adhesions and muscular spasms.
Pregnancy Massage focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be as her body goes through the dramatic changes of pregnancy. It enhances the function of muscles and joints and relieves overall physical fatigue of pregnancy. Benefits of pregnancy massage include stress relief on weight bearing joints, such as ankles, lower back, pelvis and reduced swelling in hands and feet.
Myofascial Release technique addresses superficial to deep layers of connective tissue of the body known as fascia. The fascia is interconnected to every other part of the body, and actually helps to support the body’s very structure, including the musculoskeletal system. Because of the interconnected nature of this tissue, restrictions in one area can eventually spread to other areas of the body, causing postural distortions that can lead to the occurrence of chronic pain patterns. During myofascial release, the fascia is manipulated by applying sustained pressure to the restricted area. This technique assists to improve deep holding patterns in the body, which will allow for greater movement and freedom in the body.
Trigger Point Therapy is a treatment specifically targeting painful or hyper-irritable points in muscular tissue, which may refer and cause pain in other parts of the body. The pain may be sharp and intense or a dull ache. Such points can occur anywhere in the body, but commonly develop in the neck and shoulder regions of long-term computer users, or as a result of heavy running training. Trigger point therapy aims to deactivate these hyper-irritable points and release constricted areas, thus alleviating pain. This is done through cycles of isolated pressure and release methods on the hyper-irritable points.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage involves a range of specialised and gentle rhythmic pumping techniques to move skin in the direction of the lymph flow through a network of lymph vessels and lymph nodes. When lymph circulation stagnates, fluid can build up and cause physical problems, such as inflammation, edema and neuropathy. Manual lymphatic drainage is used to improve the flow of lymph and help alleviate various conditions related to the body’s lymph system. It supports the body to naturally eliminate excess toxins, dead cells, viruses, bacteria and chemicals. Other benefits of manual lymphatic drainage include relieving fluid congestion, promoting wound healing, and relieving stress and anxiety.
Muscle Energy Technique uses the gentle muscle contractions of the client to relax and lengthen muscles and normalise joint motion. This technique requires active participation from the client. It is commonly applied to increase range of motion and relieve pain in areas of joint or soft tissue restriction, strengthen weak muscles and stretch tight muscles and fascia.
